K-Dart and Sarah

Courage! It certainly takes courage to follow your dreams with all your heart, and that’s exactly what K-Dart (aka Kristian Dart) and his partner Sarah are doing. These are young people following through on their passion – no formal training, no expensive schooling, but lots of passion, talent, musical and creative influences from their youth, and lots of courage.

One Saturday in June, 2008, K-Dart and Sarah rented Intrepid Theatre in Victoria BC and invited friends to share the stage of this intimate venue. They were joined by singer Liz McArthur, DJ El Dub and singer Rusty Parts who all performed to a very supportive audience that just about maxed out the seating in this great little theatre.

The show got off to a bit of a late start. These young folk were not used to staging an event so everyone chipped in – family took care of refreshments that included bright multi-coloured cup-cakes created by Sarah, chips, and juices – and family took care of the tickets and door while Sarah and Kristian prepared the stage area and sound system and warmed up.

Passion! That was the feeling as each artist sat behind the mic with their guitar and sang from their hearts. First was Rusty with a couple of creations. Unfortunately I couldn’t hear his lyrics as they were mumbled into the microphone. I’m sure that will improve. What is important is the emerging talent. Liz belted out some great originals, evidently written with great thought. She could have kept going all evening and the audience loved her melodic voice and enthusiasm.

Then Kristian and Sarah took to the stage – Kristian sitting behind the microphones and Sarah standing, singing solo and back-up and providing percussion – a first for her as she mentioned in passing to the audience. They both merged right into the music, were carried away with the moment and gave totally of themselves. Each song was an original created from Kristian’s life experiences and dreams. The audience was treated with visions of what it’s like being a construction worker, and the beauty of love. By the end of the concert the audience was on its feet saluting these brave souls.

This was just the beginning. On Thursday, August 21, 2008, just days before K-Dart and Sarah tied the knot and got married, they gave a concert for family and friends in the Gibson Auditorium of Camosun College, in Victoria.

Courage and Passion! Life may have its detours as both Kristian and Sarah follow their careers, but music will always be with them. Bravo!
