About "Little Candle"
"Little Candle" was originally written for a presentation to children in a public library. I wanted to perform a song that represents light and gratitude and crosses all cultures, religions and spiritual understandings - Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and Ancient and Indigenous cultures. During the dark time of year (winter) in the Northern Hemisphere, there are celebrations of light to honour the magnificent power, and the new life it brings. These celebrations come with Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Bodhi Day, Shabe-Yalda, Solstice and many others. With many of these celebrations and ceremonies there is the lighting of a candle, or candles.

What came to me was a simple story about a young girl who gets lost in the dark and is saved by the light of a candle. Now every year, when it's really dark she lights a little candle to give her thanks.

May you enjoy this song. It is for all children around the world and for the child within every grown-up. Please share "Little Candle" the song, lyrics and video (a very simple karaoke singalong - my first video creation which could very well be improved). Feel free to copy them. Feel free to perform the song. Enjoy them in love and peace. This is my gift, my thank you, my "Little Candle" for all the blessings that have been bestowed and continue to be bestowed upon my life.

It warms my heart to know now that children and grown-ups around the world are indeed singing and sharing this little song.
I am most grateful,
Rosemary

1000 Candles
1000 Candles in Roombeek, Netherlands
December 9, 2011
Children Sing in the Netherlands for LCH
On December 9, 2011, as the last of 1000 candles was lit in a stream in Roombeek in the district of Enschede in the Netherlands, 120 children representing four school choirs were accompanied by a small orchestra as they sang "Little Candle" in English.

Said organizer Renate Bik, "This evening is a benefit for LCH (Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis), a rare form of children's cancer. On the internet we found your song Little Candle. We find it particularly suitable."

Funds were raised in this first annual event through the sale of candles. For more information about the 1000 Candles Foundation and to support this worthwhile cause, maybe even buy a candle, visit the Candle Night web site.

CHORUS
There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!

A little girl was lost one cold winter’s night
Couldn’t find her way at all.
Then a little candle gave her some light
And led her safely home.

There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!

Her family was happy when she came home
They’d had an awful fright.
They thought they'd never see her again
After that cold dark night.

There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!

Now every year when it’s really dark
She lights a candle bright
And gives her thanks for the light she had
That one cold winter’s night.

There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!
