Little Candle was originally written for a Christmas presentation to children in a public library. I wanted to perform a song that represents light and gratitude and crosses all religious understandings - Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Pagan and other. Each, during the dark time of year (winter) in the Northern Hemisphere, celebrates light and all it represents, its magnificent power and the life it brings, be it with Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Bodhi Day, Shabe-Yalda, Solstice or other form of ceremony.

What came to me was a simple story about a young girl who gets lost in the dark and is saved by the light of a candle. Now every year, when it's really dark she lights a little candle to give her thanks.

May you enjoy this song. It is for all children around the world and for the child within every grown-up.

Please share Little Candle the song and lyrics. Feel free to copy them and perform them. Enjoy them in love and peace. This is my gift, my thank you, my Little Candle for all the blessings that have been bestowed and continue to be bestowed upon my life.
In Gratitude

LYRICS

Little Candle words and music by Rosemary Phillips

CHORUS
There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!

A little girl was lost one cold winter’s night
Couldn’t find her way at all.
Then a little candle gave her some light
And led her safely home.

There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!

Her family was happy when she came home
They’d had an awful fright.
They thought they would never see her again
After that cold dark night.

There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!

Now every year when it’s really dark
She lights a candle bright
And gives her thanks for the light she had
That one cold winter’s night.

There’s a little candle
Glowing in the night
Helping to give some light.
If more little candles
Shone around the world
They’d make the world so bright!
