QQN News - November 2003

November 2003

Dear Readers,

Calvin Dyck
Calvin Dyck

Great news! The QQN web site is now working in top form with search engines. Site manager – Green Thumb – has worked diligently, nurturing the site over the last few months to help get it fully operational. Many thanks M.

Now visitors to the World Wide Web will have no difficulty finding articles on this site. It’s exciting to see. For example, if you type into Google search the words “Calvin Dyck violinist” – the interview article about him comes up #1 on the search list! And the article is linked to both Calvin’s own site and Caline Artists Management for more information and to arrange bookings for his “Golden Violin” concert. I just love it.

Now offering a web presence

So now I can offer the opportunity of a web presence to musicians, writers, and all those folks who have a story to tell. For more information please contact me.

New stories this month

Tony Araujo
Tony Araujo

I’m excited to add to the articles posted on this site the story of Tony Araujo, the new artistic director for the BC Boys Choir. He is an incredible human being, with such passion and insight, who has a remarkable approach to choral music. His story has been told on video for TV and really deserves a full book. He truly is an inspiration.

Yesterday I attended a performance of The Songwriters and couldn’t help myself. I had to write a review. I really enjoyed it. It was a wonderful concert, on a cold Sunday afternoon, with great country music - and a chance to talk with the artists: Diane Chase, Steve Fox and Duane Steele, along with guitarist Jason Barry. It is such an inspiration to see people working together as they do, even though they are individual country stars in their own right.

In the works

There are several stories waiting to be added and several more in the works. One particular joy is that of interviewing my neighbour Katherine Berg for her story on her family’s escape from Russia during the Revolution. Watch for the first instalment in December. Also watch for an article on Francine Jarry, singer-songwriter from Montreal./P>

Singing for Hospice in Chilliwack

Chilliwack Hospice Retreat

On October 4, I had the joy of singing and presenting stories with hospice volunteers in Chilliwack B.C. It was Voices for Hospice day around the world, and this was Chilliwack’s way of joining in. We sang all kinds of songs taking us through all emotions. The retreat was held in a beautiful country setting overlooking a lake. It was sunny and glorious. A day I will not forget. For the first time in the 35 years that I’ve been playing guitar I got a blister on my strumming thumb.

Special thanks go to Marjorie Perzow for her hospitality, to Etta Richmond for her contributions, Rosemary Lee for her support, Denis Desautels for the great lunch, and to the many participants for being a part of it all.

The Day the Wind Changed

The children’s story “The Day the Wind Changed” has finally been completed, along with a song, and has been sent out to various publishers for consideration. It’s the story about the need to do something different, something new, to help get a different point of view. It is most relevant to global events of today. If you are a publisher and would be interested in producing this story please contact me.

Last week “The Day the Wind Changed” was presented over television for a local telethon for children. One viewer told me they actually had the hairs stand up on their neck while they watched and heard both the story and song.

Bite of the Month

For those who are in a hurry, this month’s Bite of the Month is a very short story called “The Last Train”. Hope you enjoy it.

May you have a happy month filled with wonderful adventures.

Until December…
Cheers
Rosemary
